Midnight Girl

Lyrics and Music ©2007 by Bill Roper

In November of 2006, Gretchen and I were blessed with a daughter, Katie Beth. (Kathleen Elizabeth for long.) We had been prepared by our friends with children for the probability that she would wake us up far too early in the morning.

Being our child, she is contrarily making sure that we don't get to sleep at night.

(Chorus)
D G A D
You're my midnight girl and you're bouncing on my knee.
          G E7 A
You're my midnight girl and would you go to sleep for me?
    G A D Bm
And when you look up at the stars, well, I wonder what you see.
          G A D
You're my midnight girl, come fly away with me.

      D G A
I was dreaming of an answer to a prayer.
D Bm G A
Then I woke up and saw that you were there,
   G A Bm G
My pretty little baby with eyes of shining blue.
                   A D
I've waited half a lifetime to meet you.

Now I find my life is really strange.
Take preconceptions and learn to rearrange.
Early to bed they said and early we would rise,
But I see that midnight sparkle in your eyes.

	(Bridge)
	A G D
Come along with me and we'll chase a comet's tail,
	A G A
Fly the asteroids and unfurl our solar sail
	    C G A
And watch it shimmer gently in the light,
	    C G D
But now, my dear, it's time to say good night.

It really is much later than it seems
So till the morning, I wish you pleasant dreams.
And I'm sure it is much wiser to sing softer lullabyes,
But this one's for the stars there in your eyes.

(Chorus to end)
          G A D
You're my midnight girl, come fly away with me.
